“I'm already sold on the powder. I've found it to be the most user friendly and top performing modern muzzleloader propellant I have ever used. ”
Toby Bridges, NORTH AMERICAN MUZZLELOADER HUNTING
“The litany of features and benefits is quite a list; goodbye to crud, goodbye to corrosion, goodbye to bad shelf life, goodbye to cotton mouth, goodbye to water in your barrel, and goodbye to frozen, cemented breech plugs. Load and shoot, load and shoot... have fun, and enjoy the outdoors.”
Randy Wakeman, Senior Editor, GUNS AND SHOOTING ONLINE
“I just came back from the rifle range and I am really impressed! I have shot Pyrodex, Triple 7, and Pioneer in my Encore and nothing was easier loading or shot more consistent than your powder. I will definitely be using the Blackhorn 209 this year to hunt.”
Ken
“Am I going to use it? HECK yes! I absolute LOVE this powder! None of the messy swabbing associated with Triple Se7en is a REALLY big plus in my book! I also like that using heavier bullets really penalizes you VERY little in the velocity department and I think this powder is more suited to heavier bullets. If the non-corrosive part of the powder proves to ring true, and I think it will, this powder is a home run!"
Chuck Hill, MODERN MUZZLELOADER
“I recently e-mailed you about your powder and the .444 gr Powerbelts.I got back from the range today and can hardly believe how your powder works. Its incredible, between a friend and I we shot 25 rounds and could not believe the level of accuracy without cleaning the bore...before now that was unheard of. No flyers, no cleaning the bore and best of all the bullet seated down on the charge at the exact same spot every single time. I sure hope you guys will be able to keep up with demand, because once the word gets out you will corner the market...You will literally put all the others out of business."
Emile
“I just wanted to say thank you for this Blackhorn 209 powder. Yesterday I shot my Knight Magnum 50 cal. Disc Rifle that use's the older style Orange Primer 209 Holder's 18 times without swabbing it. Amazing to say the least this powder really is. It is about time that our inline 209 MLer's had a powder that was good as as our gun's can be. Keep up the good work."
Larry [aka] Swamp Fox
“Thanks for the info on Blackhorn 209, just used it for the first time, with the Barns 250 gr. Expander MZ and the hph/24 sabots. 1" or less 5 shot groups at 100 yards with my Knight and TC Omega!! No ring around the bottom of the barrel like I used to get with the t7. Thank you, I just ordered 2 more cans of the powder, I hope it catches on and they keep making it!”
John
“Thank you for your great muzzleloading powder - it’s everything you say it is. Truth in advertising is something that seems to be missing from some company’s. And some don’t help protect our muzzleloading sport. Thanks again for a great muzzleloading powder.”
Robert
“I thought I'd pass my "thumbs up" your way. I really like the Blackhorn 209 in my TC Triumph. No mess, no water, no "swabbing" between shots (thank you!), and easy cleanup. Shot 30 rounds with no major problem loading to the end.”
Patrick
“I just tried your new powder this last weekend. It is a step up from Triple seven. I was impressed. One thing I noticed shooting Blackhorn 209 , I shot 30 rounds and did not have any flyers hit the target. It’s real easy to compact your charge so it’s easier to be consistent shot to shot. Accuracy was good using 100,110 and 120 grain charges. I shot several 1'' and 1 1/2'' 3 shot groups. The powder is a little pricey but I can live with that. I will switch to Blackhorn 209. Your company made an excellent product for muzzleloader hunting.”
Tom
“I enjoyed my first workout with BH209 last weekend. My Disc Extreme liked it pretty well. I was only able to put some rounds through at 50 yards, but my groups were decent for a lousy rest and a target that was blowing in the wind. The great thing is that the powder was wonderful. I was able to fire 12 shots and they all loaded as easily as the first. The amount of fouling is very minimal. The amount of smoke at the shot is minimal.”
Larry
“After using your powder last weekend, I am totally sold on it. This product lives up to its claims. Thank you!”

“Hi, I was recently shooting my muzzleloader rifle at a range when the guy next to me was shooting his muzzleloader with Blackhorn powder. I was impressed! I realize that he was a good shot, but he bragged about your powder. He also let me try it. It was an improvement to my shooting.”
Michael
“I have purchased Blackhorn 209 powder and love its ease of use and very accurate and consistent shot groups.”
Otis
“I think your Blackhorn 209 is a great product. I enjoy shooting muzzleloaders but dislike the cleanup and especially dislike using water.”
Barney
“I have used advice from your site many times in the past with very good results. However, I have never been as wowed with a product as I was yesterday when I tried the Blackhorn 209 powder at the range. My CVA Optima 209 has always been very fickle. Use a small sabot and it won’t group, use a larger one and you can’t load it after 3 shots because of the residue left with Pyrodex or Triple 7. The first round I shot 8 shots with the 8th loading as easily as the 1st. I couldn’t stand it so I pulled the breech plug to take a look. I wiped the breech plug off with a cloth and pulled a bore snake through it one time and it looked like I had spent 30 minutes cleaning my gun. I continued to shoot for another 20 plus rounds trying to work up a good load. When I got home and cleaned my gun it was again very short work. Just had to tell you thanks on this one.”
Ron
“Thanks for this wonderful powder. Finally somebody is telling the truth about their powder - it is everything you said and more. It is very accurate and velocity is great. Keep up the great work and keep the store shelves full.”
Richard
“I just wanted to say great job for producing such a great product. I purchased a can of your powder after my local gun shop talked me into buying some. Let’s just say 3 guys went in and bought a container after seeing my results with my TC Omega. After shooting 15 shots without cleaning, I decided to put up a clean target and had around a 1" group with 5 shots with most touching. I left the target and the dry patch that I swabbed after 20 shots to let them see the results and to promote sales. Thanks for a no false hype product.”
Rick
“Received my first order of 209 from Mid-South Shooters Supply. Set up 2 Thompson Omega X7 rifles. Bottom line - if you stay in business, 777 is history. The old crud ring used to drive me crazy and I would go no more than 5 shots without removing the breach plug. Thanks for developing this product.”
Tom
“Blackhorn 209 is very easy to shoot, is cleaner, no crud ring, no frozen breach plug, load and shoot, load and shoot, I now have to slow down to keep the barrel cool. I do not miss the swabbing between shots. The only draw back to this is using the 209 primer, my breach plug builds up more crud in the flash hole, compared to using the small rifle primer in the Variflame primer. I use a small drill bit turned by hand and that does the trick. This build up will take place after 40 to 50 shots. If you love to shoot, this powder is your answer.”
Dan
“I have recently read your articles on testing Blackhorn 209. It really did sound too good to be true, but I am a believer after testing it myself. Outstanding! What more can I say? No problem with the breech plug design either. No misfires, no hang fires, NO MESS! And very accurate to boot. It only took one three shot group at 100 yds. to rub my eyes and take a double look. One inch group and same point of impact. I tried some groups at 200 yd, and got 4 inch groups. Those are the best, and most consistent groups at that range I ever got from my gun. I really appreciate your simple, down to earth writing and testing of products, and am sure that most other hunters do too.”
Jason
“I'm in the Navy and do a majority of my hunting on military installations, which are usually open to bow hunting and muzzleloading. That being said, my muzzleloader has become my preferred weapon of choice for everything. I recently decided on a few upgrades for my Knight Original DISC. I purchased a HPML Scope, Black Horn 209 Powder, Federal 209A Primers, Warne Rings/Bases, and the Barnes TMZ Sabots. I got everything set up, went to the range last week, and walked away absolutely amazed. What an accurate and deadly combination! I can't tell you how much fun it is to shoot this setup. I'm not the best shooter in the world, but when you are shooting @ 100 yards and the bullet holes are touching, you sure feel like it.”
David
“I have purchased Blackhorn 209 powder and love its ease of use and very accurate and consistent shot groups.”
Otis
“I like Blackhorn 209 a lot. I have made a 110 charge to be my best all around charge, and you’re right, this powder is by far the best for accuracy, clean burning and velocity. My gun is deadly up to 150 yds. and compared to Triple 7 there is less recoil in 110 charge of Blackhorn 209 than a equivalent charge of fffg Triple 7.... which I like for a lot of reasons such as accuracy and mild shooting.”
